A guy rings the Musicians Union to get a quote on a 6 piece band for a wedding. The rep says “Off the top of my head, about $2,000”. The guy says “WHAT? FOR MUSIC?” The rep responds “I’LL tell you what. Call the plumbers’ union and ask for 6 plumbers to work from 6 ’til midnight on a Sat. night. What ever they charge you, we will work for half.”
So WHEN YOU ARE APPROACHING A VENUE FOR work apply this logic –
CONSIDER when the Rancid pub owner says NO WAY your off-your-head we have a Multitude of bands to choose from and you should be happy to work for $20 a hour – remind him or her what a SHIT-HOLE they are running and that a career in a liqueur outlet is worth less than a PLUMBERS’ SPHINCTER and tell them you are considering doubling your fee.
